Parent Volunteers
First grade students are privileged to “publish” books in Southwest School’s Writing Lab. Southwest grandparent, Kathy Singer runs our Writing Lab. She will need parent/grandparent volunteers to listen to students read their writing and ask the first grade author questions. Students love to have the opportunity to work with a Writing Lab volunteer! This activity usually begins at the end of September/early October and runs through the year.¬†
It takes a lot of help to keep up with our busy first grade writers! ¬†If you are able to volunteer at school, you will find that these are SHORT books and adults can get several done in one sitting. If you’d rather help from home, Kathy Singer can also teach you how to glue book covers. Just let one of us know if you are interested in helping in some way.
Occasionally, I have special projects for the class that are hard to manage on my own. If you are interested in helping out periodically with a special project, please let me know and I will contact you in advance to see if we can set up a time.
Of course, we will take a field trip and have holiday parties. I always appreciate the help we get from parents on these special days. This is one more way that you can be involved in your child’s first grade year.
