Handwriting
In Genseo, we teach Zaner-Bloser, or traditional, manuscript. During handwriting practice, we use specially-lined paper so first graders can get their letters the right size. Students will practice letters that are small, letters that are tall, and letters that have a part that falls. Since many entering students like to use all capital letters, I especially focus on the lowercase letters. I encourage students to use lowercase more often when they write. Students are also taught to start their letters at the top. Understanding the lines on the paper and controlling the pencil to stay in the lines takes practice. We will have many opportunities to practice proper penmanship throughout first grade!
