You will see a great deal of growth in your child’s writing this year! Reading the students’ writing is always so much fun because their personalities and interests always come shining through! At the start of the year, I always need the students’ drawings to help me decipher what they have written. By the end of the year, I can read the entire page on my own and topics are fully developed with details. We will be working on:

writing a complete sentence

choosing a topic and staying with it

developing the topic with details

using a logical sequence and using transitions: first, next, then, last

phonetic spelling intermixed with proper spelling when known

capitalizing the start of a sentence

ending a sentence with punctuation
